A Wreckfest dedicated server lets a derby night or a race series run without anyone hosting from their PC. You pick the mode and grid size, we boot a real dedicated server, and friends join from the in-game server browser. This guide covers what you get, how to start one, and how people connect.
What you get
Every Wreckfest server on 2hours.gg is a real dedicated server, not a listen server tied to one player's game.
- Up to 24 players: The grid ladder is 8, 16, or 24, set by the size you pick on deploy.
- AI drivers fill the pack: If human players do not fill the grid, AI drivers take the empty slots so races and derbies still feel full.
- One mode per server: You pick derby or racing on the deploy form. To change it, redeploy with a different pick.
- Ready in about 5 minutes: The server boots, installs the Wreckfest dedicated tool, and lists itself in the browser.
- By the hour: You pay for the hours the server runs, no subscription.
Start a server
Deploying is a short form. No config files, no port-forwarding.
- Pick a region: Choose the region closest to your group for the lowest ping.
- Pick a size: Small is an 8 car grid, Medium is 16, Large is 24.
- Pick a mode: Derby Deathmatch, Derby, Team Derby, Racing, Team Race, or Elimination Race.
- Set a password (optional): Leave it empty for an open server anyone can join. Set a password and only people you give it to can join.
How friends connect
Wreckfest has no direct-IP or console connect. The only way in is the in-game server browser, and you find the server by its name.
- Open the browser: In Wreckfest go to Multiplayer, then Server Browser.
- Search by name: Search for your server by name. It starts with 2hours.gg.
- Password prompt: If you set a join password on deploy, players enter it at the prompt when they pick the server.
Admin controls
Wreckfest has no web console and no Source RCON. As the server owner your Steam account is set as admin, so you get the in-game admin options from the pause menu while connected: kick, skip, and restart. AI driver count and difficulty are set when the server is deployed.
