Wreckfest game modes explained: racing vs derby

Wreckfest splits into two families: derby, where the goal is to wreck everyone else, and racing, where you cross the line first while the pack tries to end your run. On 2hours.gg you pick one mode per server on the deploy form. Here is what each mode does.

Derby modes

Derby is an arena. Last car running wins. Ram, wreck, and survive.

  • Derby Deathmatch: Free-for-all in the arena. Every car for itself, last one running wins.
  • Derby: The classic derby round. Wreck the other cars and outlast the field.
  • Team Derby: Same arena survival, but split into teams. The last team with a running car wins.

Racing modes

Racing is a track. You still trade paint, but the goal is to finish ahead.

  • Racing: Race the pack to the line. Contact is expected, finishing is optional.
  • Team Race: Race split into teams, scored by team placing.
  • Elimination Race: The last-placed driver is dropped each lap until one winner is left.

Which mode to pick

  • Casual carnage: Derby Deathmatch is the fastest way to get everyone smashing straight away.
  • Teams: Team Derby or Team Race if you want two sides instead of a free-for-all.
  • Tension: Elimination Race keeps stakes high because the back of the pack is always about to be cut.

How to set the mode

You pick the mode when you deploy the server, on the Mode field. Each server runs one mode. To switch, redeploy with a different pick. AI drivers fill any slots your group does not, so a mode plays full even with a small crew.
