A normal by-the-hour server forgets everything when the hours run out. A Valheim server on 2hours.gg does not: your world is saved for you and you resume it next time. You build across sessions, not just within one.
How saving works
- While you play, the world is snapshotted in the background every few minutes, so a crash or a lost connection never costs you much.
- When your session ends, the server takes one final save and stores that exact state.
- Next time you deploy, choose "Resume a saved world" and pick it. The server loads that world and you carry on exactly where you left off.
- Worlds are kept for you between sessions. You can delete one you no longer want from the same picker.
You need to be signed in for a world to be saved to your account. A new world is named on deploy (letters, numbers, - and _, up to 20 characters).
How friends join
Valheim servers use a required join password (at least 5 characters, and it cannot be part of the server name). Give friends two things: the server address and that password.
- In Valheim: Start Game, pick your character, then Join Game and Join IP.
- Enter the address shown on your server card, then the password when prompted.
- The server also lists in the Community server browser, so friends can search the name and join there too.
Crossplay
Turn on Enable crossplay when you deploy and players on Xbox, PlayStation and other platforms can join too, not just Steam. Leave it off for a Steam-only world. Up to 10 players either way.
You are the admin
Whoever deploys the server is granted admin in that world automatically. In-game, admin is done through the console (press F5) with commands like:
kick <name> remove a player
ban <name> ban a player
save force a save right now
tod <0-1> set time of day (0.5 = midday)
sleep skip to morning if everyone is in bedEnable the console first: at the main menu press F5, type imacheater to unlock cheats, or just use the admin commands above which work for server admins. Valheim has no web console or RCON, so admin happens in-game, not from the browser.
What does not work (so you are not surprised)
- No web console. Valheim has no RCON, so there is no in-browser command panel like our Source games. Admin is in-game (F5).
- Mods (BepInEx) are client-side and are not installed on the server. A vanilla world is what you get; everyone joins vanilla.
- One live server per saved world at a time: you cannot run two servers on the same world (that would corrupt the save). Stop one before resuming it elsewhere.
