Left 4 Dead 2 ships with 14 campaigns. The Steam Workshop has thousands more, and most are rough. These seven are the co-op ones worth a full night: popular, polished, and built for four survivors against the Director. All are free. Everyone in the group subscribes to the same one, you host it, and you drop in together.
Seven co-op campaigns you should not miss
- Warcelona: a sun-baked run through Barcelona, from markets and back alleys to a stadium finale. One of the most-played custom campaigns ever made, and still a great first pick.
- Suicide Blitz 2: a tense descent through a city that ends in a stadium. A long-time community favourite for its pacing and its setpieces.
- Diescraper Redux: fight your way down a collapsing skyscraper. Tight corridors, a memorable elevator sequence, and a strong finale.
- Urban Flight: escape the city by plane. Great variety across its maps and a lot of personality, it plays especially well in co-op.
- Devil Mountain: a long, atmospheric trek through a mountain town. High production values and enough length to fill an evening.
- Haunted Forest: the Halloween pick. Spooky woods, a genuinely creepy mood, and good pacing. Best played with the lights off.
- I Hate Mountains: a rain-soaked forest classic and one of the oldest must-plays. Simple, well-built, and it still holds up.
How to play them with your squad
Custom campaign content loads on each player’s own game, so the one rule is: everyone subscribes to the same campaign on the Steam Workshop first. Anyone who skips that step cannot join the map.
Then deploy an L4D2 co-op server, pick the campaign, and share the join link. Full steps in playing custom campaigns. Want more than four survivors, or a challenge twist? See playing with more than 4 players and mutations.
