CS2 deathmatch spawns everyone at random spots. Classic Team Deathmatch, the one from Source and CS:GO community servers, puts each team back at its own spawn. Here is how to run it, turn off spawn protection, and play it on Dust2 Unlimited.
Team spawns, not random spawns
- Valve deathmatch: you respawn anywhere on the map, often behind the enemy.
- Team Deathmatch: CTs respawn at CT spawn, Ts at T spawn. Fights happen in the middle, like a real round that never ends.
- The difference is one setting:
mp_randomspawn 0
On 2hours.gg, pick Team Deathmatch in the map picker when you deploy, or switch to it from the console. Team Deathmatch (random spawns) is the Valve version.
On your own box:
+game_type 1 +game_mode 2 +map de_dust2
mp_randomspawn 0Turn off spawn protection
Valve deathmatch makes a player who just spawned immune for up to 10 seconds. A lot of players hate it: you empty a clip into someone who cannot die yet. To turn it off:
mp_respawn_immunitytime 0- 0 is off. 2 is a short grace period, 10 is Valve’s default.
- In the 2hours.gg web console, the Spawn protection setting does it in one click: Off, 2, 5 or 10 seconds.
- The deathmatch config sets it back to 10 on every map load. Save it in your server config profile to keep it across maps.
The map: Dust2 Unlimited
Dust2 Unlimited was the Team Deathmatch map on Counter-Strike: Source servers: a wide Dust2 where both teams meet in the middle within seconds. It is on the Workshop as an unofficial CS2 port.
host_workshop_map 3311527054- We tested it on our servers in Team Deathmatch: it downloads and loads, and 5 players per team all get a team spawn.
- Or paste the id in the Workshop map picker when you deploy.
- It is a 170 MB download, so the first load takes a minute.
The stock maps work too: Dust II, Mirage and Inferno are the classic TDM picks.
Fill the teams with bots
- Only 3 or 4 of you? Add bots from the console until both teams are full.
- Bots join a few seconds after each map change. That is on purpose: it prevents a CS2 crash on map change. Why.
- For 5v5 plus spectators, pick Medium (11 slots) or Large (20 slots).
